Professional experience and career objectives: The focus of my research is to understand in detail how reactive products derived from oxidative stress affect cardiovascular (patho)physiology. Mitochondria in particular are a prominent source of such reactive species . Hence, the ongoing studies in our laboratory are centered on understanding how these reactive species affect mitochondrial function and cell death responses. Collectively, the goals of such studies are to discover new interventions to combat cardiovascular disease.
Skills and areas of expertise: Protein biochemistry, proteomics, detection and quantification of oxidative post-translational protein modifications, measurement of cellular bioenergetics, grant writing, cell culture, animal handling
